Grandma’s Games Overview

The challenge of implementing the project Grandma’s Games came from continual development of information technology that has great influence on children today who prefer to play on their computers than with their friends outside the neighborhood. As a reflection of this fact, we started to develop our idea to animate the kids to learn through playing outside the school yard, and meanwhile we used the game as a cause of regional communication and learning.

The Grandma’s games project has a holistic approach to work with students at this age, in correlation with the curriculum. The activities brought new ways of learning that focused on "learning by doing" and all participants of the project were guided by the motto "Let's play games, let’s be friends, let’s learn together!". We used computers as a tool for learning, while the grandma’s games as a working method. This project is a cultural journey through authentic and traditional values with new teaching approaches that have developed a unique approach to lifelong learning.

Key Achievements

The Grandma’s Games project at the national competition organized in Macedonia by Microsoft Partners in Learning, won the first prize for innovative use of technology in teaching and learning. For the first awarded project MS Partners in Learning ensured participation of teachers at the European Innovative Teachers Forum in Moscow. Out of 44 countries and around 80 projects who participated in Moscow, Macedonia with this project won the first prize of the Educators choice category.

Globalization of Grandma’s Games

The project activities continue in the context of our goal to globalize the resurgence of the grandma’s games because their stories are a major source of our tradition, which unfortunately today are less significant. We are deeply convinced that this project highlights the benefits of technology, but in a different way, where students learn not because they must learn, but the game brings enthusiasm of education achievements. We would like to bring innovation in the use of technology of 21st century, to carry the idea of getting to know the grandma’s games and build a communication/learning bridge between students from different regions of the Earth planet.
